Purpose

The purpose of this Christian school shall be to provide a creative, loving academic environment for children to grow socially, emotionally, physically, academically, and spiritually through individual and group learning experiences under the guidance and nurture of carefully chosen Christian teachers, administrators, and under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

It shall be the purpose of the Danville Christian Academy to encourage all students to grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to emphasize the value of the eternal soul, the worth of the individual, the love of God for man, and the kinship of all peoples as taught in the Holy Scriptures, while providing students with the opportunity for achieving academic excellence.

Focus

The focus of the Danville Christian Academy shall be to promote Christian education through the establishment of a unit school, which utilizes Christian educational methods and principles to develop each student to his or her full spiritual and academic potential.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God. (II Timothy 3:15, II Peter 1:21)

2. We believe there is one God eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30)

3. We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His vicarious and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4), His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

4. We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only God’s grace and through faith alone we are saved. (John 3:16-19, John 5:24, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5)

5. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29)

6. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28)

7. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. (Romans 8:13-14, I Corinthians 3:16, I Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, 5:18)

Theological Stance

It is our desire that the Danville Christian Academy be a non-denominational school providing a Christian environment for learning. All that is said or done will be to the glory of God. Doctrinal questions shall be referred to the child’s parents or their church leaders.

Basic Goals and Objectives

Section 1. The teachers and the administrations of the Danville Christian Academy shall endeavor to insure that every student comes to an understanding of basic Christian theology.

Section 2. The staff of the school shall strive to achieve a healthy balance between academic preparation and spiritual training.

Section 3. The curriculum shall include the study of the Bible, with individual classes developed and evaluated from a Biblical perspective.

Section 4. The curriculum shall meet or exceed the graduation requirements established by the Kentucky State Department of Education.

Section 5. The Danville Christian Academy shall strive to meet or surpass the standards of the highest accrediting agencies.

Section 6. The Danville Christian Academy shall employ only those Christian administrators and teachers who can meet the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and School and ACSI.

Section 7. The Danville Christian Academy shall limit class sizes to allow for individual attention and instruction.

Section 8. The teachers and the administrators shall strive to recognize each student for his or her unique abilities in some specific areas (whether academic or extracurricular) and, calling repeated attention to it/them, encourage achievement in those area(s).

Section 9. The teachers and the administrators shall work closely with parents or guardians for the benefit of the students in every phase of their development and education.

Section 10. The specific objective for spiritual development shall be:

To teach the student that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
To teach the student that the Lord Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God who came to earth to die for our sins.
To teach the student that the Bible is the infallible Word of God.
To give each individual student an opportunity to hear the gospel presented and to make a profession of faith in Christ.
To inspire students toward an increasing commitment to Christ and a life which reflects that commitment.
To encourage the student toward a growth in the Christian life that depends upon the Holy Spirit, the Scriptures, and other resources (among which are the Church, Christian fellowship, the study of Christian literature) that God has placed at our disposal.
To encourage each student to develop a healthy devotional life.
To teach the student the application of Biblical principles to every part of daily life.
To teach the student to develop and embrace a value system centered in Christ and in harmony with the Scriptures.
To provide an environment in which the student learns to love God and enjoy Him forever.
To develop within the student a love for the life that God gives and enjoyment of God and His creation.
To teach the student the importance of the Christian’s affiliation with and active participation in the local church.
To encourage the student to communicate in love and understanding with non-Christians and with Christians who hold differing views.
To teach the student the urgency of world evangelism and missions in obedience to Christ’s great commission.
To assist each student in developing the ability to distinguish between truth and error.
To enable the student to understand the Bible and its teachings.

Section 11. The specific objective for emotional development shall be:

To help each student recognize, appreciate, and develop those unique qualities that God has given to him or her.
To enable each student to recognize his or her uniqueness as an individual and to identify his or her own strengths and weaknesses, capabilities, and limitations.
To teach each student that when he or she fails, it is not a cause for rejection, but that he or she should face it honestly, accept the consequences, and use that failure as an opportunity for learning and growth.
To teach each student how to accept success in himself or herself and others, and that it is to be received humbly in love, neither denied nor worshipped.
To develop in each student a healthy self-concept.
To prepare each student to handle effectively the stress that comes with living in the modern world.
To develop in each student the ability to give of himself or herself to others through a sharing of his or her feelings, thoughts, and ideas.
To help each student realize and appreciate the fact that his or her emotions are gifts from God.
To aid the student in developing the ability to make decisions.
To teach students to apply decision-making abilities in dealing with life’s problems.

Section 12. The specific objectives for social development shall be:

To provide support, guidance, and discipline in helping students to follow their unique courses.
To develop in students the willingness and ability to listen.
To develop in students the ability and desire to nurture friendships.
To teach students to recognize the worth of the individual’s function in the community of Christians regardless of age or position.
To develop in students the appreciation for and the skills necessary for wise use of leisure time.
To develop in the individual patience for God’s plan being manifested in his or her life.
To help each student recognize and assume the roles and responsibilities that are his or hers in every social context.
To encourage students to appreciate and participate in the family.
To encourage each student to enter into commitments intelligently, to honor and submit himself or herself to them, and not to shirk his or her commitments because of the convenience of the moment.
To teach students a respect for and an appreciation of authority as well as for the individual in that position.
To develop in the students a respect for and an appreciation of authority as well as for the individual in that position.
To provide each student with a climate in which he or she can develop the ability to discuss questions with those in authority without attacking the person or his or her position and without fearing rejection.
To encourage each student to develop patriotism and an appreciation for our American heritage.
To show the student his or her civic responsibilities and to prepare him or her for adult responsibility as a Christian citizen of the United States.
To teach each student to love and pray for all peoples of the world.

Section 13. The specific objectives for physical development shall be:

To help each student appreciate his or her body as a gift from God to be used for His glory.
To help each student understand the relationship between the physical aspects of life and the emotional, spiritual, and the rational.
To provide the student with an understanding of his or her body, its care, and appearance.
To promote and provide wholesome physical recreation.

Section 14. The specific objectives for intellectual development shall be:

To help each student realize that his or her intellectual capacity is a gift from God and is to be used for His glory.
To involve each student in a curriculum that is in harmony with Biblical standards.
To teach each student to think for himself or herself and to stand up for his or her personal convictions in the face of pressure.
To teach the student to work independently and cooperatively.
To develop in each student an appreciation for the fine arts.
To develop the creative abilities of the student.
To develop effective communication skills in the student.
To develop in the student a love for learning.
To help each student develop the skills necessary for study and learning.
To provide opportunity for each student to learn problem solving and to develop the ability to think critically.
To provide opportunity for learning practical arts and skill.
To provide the student with the knowledge and skills required for future study or for occupational competence.
To stimulate in the students an understanding of the various cultures and peoples of the world.
To help each student identify and accept his or her unique course in life.

Philosophy

The Danville Christian Academy shall provide each student the opportunity to study and to develop his mind, body, and spirit in a wholesome, Christian environment. It shall strive to provide the best education possible in preparation for high levels of education and to contribute to the establishment of Christian values for a happy and creative life, while working in God's kingdom.

Being non-discriminatory and Christian in nature, the school shall be directed toward instruction concerning the Lord's will for each person and shall teach that all truth is of divine origin. Knowledge to choose between good and evil, based upon the Lord's Holy Word, shall be imparted to each child.

Those serving in the school in any capacity, whether in administration, on the faculty, on the staff, on the Board of Directors or as a volunteer, shall subscribe to DCA's philosophy of providing a high quality Christian education in a Christian atmosphere. The establishment and subsequent operation of this school shall be successful only when done in accordance with His will and for His honor and glory.

Relationship to Area Churches

The Danville Christian Academy shall endeavor to cultivate close working relationships with all churches in the area that are in agreement with the statement of faith and philosophy formulated by the Danville Christian Academy.
