Philosophy

Evaluation in education is the continuing process of gathering and weighing evidence that reveals achievement and behavior of pupils as they progress through school. Since education deals with the total growth of the student, pupil progress reports will necessarily be used as an aid in analyzing and evaluating such growth. Grading is a process, which should entail cooperative assessment of the student’s achievements by the teacher and administrator. The educational program of the Danville Christian Academy should challenge the student to achieve the maximum of his or her individual capacities.
Grading Principles

To implement the preceding philosophy, these basic grading principles shall be followed:
- Pupils shall be graded in actual achievement in relation to the criteria established by the school.
- The teacher is responsible for keeping an official record of grades, attendance, punctuality, conduct, and effort.
- The teacher shall interpret to pupils and parents the methods utilized in evaluating the student’s progress and achievement.
- The parent and student shall be notified of the student’s progress at regular intervals.
Grading Scale

A = 100 – 93
B = 92 – 85
C = 84 – 75
D = 74 – 70
F = Below 70
Standardized Testing

Each student shall be required to take the Stanford 9 Achievement Test for Christian Schools. This test shall be given every spring to all students enrolled. Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 shall also be given the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test.
The primary purpose of pupil evaluation shall be to:
- Diagnose learning achievements and needs
- Present an accurate appraisal of the student’s accomplishments in order to inform parents, students, and subsequent teachers, etc.
- Encourage future success
Retention / Promotion
Occasionally administration and a teacher recommend that a student be retained in a class for a second year. Such recommendation is only made after careful evaluation of the child’s performance, ability, social, and physical development, along with his or her age/grade placement.
Homework

The Danville Christian Academy believes that homework plays an important role in the education of each child. Academic reasons for homework include providing practice in needed skill areas and reinforcing concepts presented in class. Homework also promotes responsibility, as well as helping a student learn good work habits and how to budget his or her time.
Homework shall be assigned by teachers according to the abilities and needs of the students. Our homework requirements are balanced, not oppressive.
Class Size

A maximum of 10 students shall be enrolled in 4K, 12 students in 5K, and 20 students in 1st through 8th grade classes. |
