Cocurricular Activities

4-H: This group will be open to 4th graders and up and will meet once a month. It will focus on projects that encourage positive youth development with hands-on learning. Students will be able to assume leadership positions, put projects in local fairs, practice public speaking, and gain confidence in themselves while serving others. The ultimate goal is to develop capable, competent and caring citizens.
BETA CLUB: A Beta Club for junior high school students will be organized if there are enough students and parents willing to participate in the regional / national organizations.
CHOIR: This group is voluntary for the 4th grade and up. Members will be taught vocal techniques, harmonizing and are introduced to various styles of music.
A DCA Choir will be organized if there are enough students and parents willing to participate.
DRAMA CLUB: The Drama Club meets once a week after school for an hour at one of the DCA sites. The purpose of the Drama Club is to allow students the opportunity to express themselves through the performing arts. Students learn how to memorize lines, how to react vocally, physically and emotionally to fellow actors, and how to deal with moral issues through a Christian perspective on stage. The Drama Club presents their programs at Chapel services at different sites. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend all productions.
JOURNALISM CLUB: A Journalism Club will be organized if there are enough students and parents willing to participate. The club would meet after school once a week to work on the student newspaper, The Warrior Word.
SPELLING BEE: DCA students in the 4th – 8th grades compete within their own classrooms for the title of ‘Spelling Bee Winner’ and these class winners then compete against each other to determine the overall Spelling Bee School Champion. This DCA representative then competes on the county level with the winners from Boyle County and Danville Independent public schools districts. The overall winner of this competition finally goes on to compete at the state level in April.
YEARBOOK COMMITTEE: The Yearbook Committee is formed from interested students who are available after school 3 - 4 days a month beginning in September. Students in grades 7 – 10 who have an interest in photography, computers, art and creative design are encouraged to join. Details about times and meetings are available toward the end of August. |
